And they will be playing in front of a bumper crowd as local rivals Sunderland come to town.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the game…

Durham Women v Sunderland

Date: Sunday 24th April

Kick-off time: 12pm

Gates open: 10:30am

Venue: Maiden Castle, DH1 3SE

Sunderland travel to Maiden Castle off the back of a good run of form, which has moved them comfortably away from relegation danger and has mathematically secured their survival.

Indeed, the Black Cats currently sit third in the FA Women’s Championship form table and are unbeaten in their last three – having beaten Sheffield United and Watford and drawn with Coventry United.

The win over the Blades was an eye-catching one, with Mel Reay’s side running out 4-1 winners, thanks in no small part to their pacy forward line.

Maria Farrugia and Emily Scarr both found the net in that game and will need to be marshalled carefully on Sunday, especially given the experience and quality of Abbey Joice, Emma Kelly and Keria Ramshaw – who will no doubt lay on plenty of chances.

Neve Herron has also caught the eye this term with some all-action displays in the Sunderland engine room, while at the back the experience of Grace McCatty has proved key.

Durham Women will be able to select from the same squad who were available for the clash at Watford.

Speaking ahead of the game, Lauren Briggs said: “It’s a massive occasion for the North East.

“As players, as fans, it’s a big game.

“We’ve just been putting in the hard work over the last couple of weeks, and it’s a massive opportunity to showcase the work we’ve put in.”
