It’s finally game week – and after a long summer without competitive action, Durham Women are set to return to the Maiden Castle turf this weekend.
The Blues take on Sheffield United in their first Barclays Women’s Championship fixture of the campaign on Sunday, September 8 (12pm kick-off. We’re looking to kick-start what everyone hopes will be a successful campaign in the second tier. And with hundreds of tickets already snapped-up, there looks set to be a strong crowd backing the Blues on the opening day.
But there’s still time for you to secure your spot at the season opener – and here’s five reasons why you should #BackTheBlues when the Blades come to town…
THE START OF A NEW ERA
This summer has been a monumental one for the professional women’s game in England – with the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship now owned and operated by Women’s Professional Leagues Limited.
It’s an exciting for the game and the beginning of a new era. This weekend is history in the making as the first games in this exciting fresh chapter are played, so make sure you’re there.
NEW SIGNINGS
It wouldn’t be a summer without new signings, would it? And we’ve made four of them already this summer.
Abbi Grant, Hannah Blake, Carly Johns and Kaila Novak have all put pen to paper on contracts at Maiden Castle ahead of the 2024/25 campaign – and we know you can’t wait to see them all in action.
This could be your first chance to see them pull on the blue shirt, so don’t miss it!
SEE THE NEXT GENERATION
We’re big on inspiring the next generation and encouraging them to pursue their football dreams. So we’re taking that to the next level at the game against Sheffield United.
First off, we’ll have players from our own Pathway teams from U10 – U14 acting as mascots and the guard of honour as the two teams enter the pitch.
And then at half-time, we’ve invited all our Sister Clubs to be the stars of the show. We’ll be parading their players on the pitch, so make sure you give them a big round of applause!
FREE ACTIVITIES & GIVEAWAYS
Everyone loves a freebie, don’t they?
We’ve got plenty available thanks to our partnership with Durham City Police – who will be at the game with plenty on offer for fans of all ages!
From free inflatable hands to help you make some noise for the team to a host of fun activities – plus the chance to try on some police uniforms – there’s plenty for everyone!
MEET THE PLAYERS
Always a highlight of our match days is the player meet and greet post-match.
And that’s going to continue this season, with our squad heading over to meet supporters in front of the Main Stand once they’ve completed their post-match team talk.
So get yourself down and bring your autograph book!
