BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Liverpool (H)

Durham Women will welcome Liverpool to Maiden Castle this weekend – and here’s everything you need to know…

The Wildcats face the Reds as they look to bounce back from their defeat at Crystal Palace last weekend.

This weekend’s game falls on Women’s Football Weekend and will see the top two in the FA Women’s Championship lock horns.

And here’s all the key information ahead of the clash…

The early season favourites for the FA Women’s Championship, Liverpool have lived up to their billing and are unsurprisingly challenging at the top of the division.

Matt Beard was appointed as manager over the summer and has built upon an already talented squad.

He added some familiar faces in Leanne Kiernan, Yana Daniels, Jasmine Matthews and Carla Humphrey – who Beard previously worked with at West Ham and Bristol City respectively – and they have hit the ground running.

Kiernan in particular has caught the eye and is currently jointly top of the FA Women’s Championship goalscoring charts.

That quartet join an already established squad that includes the likes of Mel Lawley, Rachel Furness and Rachael Laws.

Liverpool haven’t lost since the opening day and have only drawn two league games since – so this is sure to be a testing encounter.

Durham Women will be without forward Nicki Gears who remains sidelined with a long-term injury.

Speaking ahead of the game, Becky Salicki said: “They’ve got a fantastic manager, fantastic players and a fantastic set-up.

“They’re a team we have a lot of respect for, but it’s a football game.

“There’s 90 minutes and we’ll battle as best as we can.”
