BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Charlton Athletic (H)

Durham Women will welcome Charlton Athletic to Maiden Castle this weekend – and here’s everything you need to know…

The Wildcats face the Addicks looking to bounce back from a first defeat of the campaign at Sheffield United last week.

And here’s all the key information ahead of the clash with Charlton:

The Addicks have been a regular foe for Durham in recent years, and they look set to pose a stern test once again this season.

Under the management of Karen Hills and Riteesh Mishra, Charlton have strengthened their squad considerably over the summer and are now a fully professional side.

While some players have remained – including lively attacking trio Ella Rutherford, Jess King and Elisha Sulola – it’s some of the new signings that have caught the eye.

Becky Jane, Lauren Bruton and Emma Follis all have experience of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and will be ones to watch this weekend.

Charlton will enter the game full of confidence after beating Coventry United in their season opener last week. Rutherford netted a brace, with Beth Roe also on the scoresheet.

Durham Women will be without forward Nicki Gears who remains sidelined with a long-term injury.

Speaking ahead of the game, defender Becky Salicki said: “They’re a good team with a really, really good manager.

“We’ve got the upmost respect for them and we know it’s going to be a really tough game, and we’ll prepare the best that we can for it.”
