BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Newcastle United (H)

Durham Women will welcome Newcastle United to Maiden Castle this weekend – and here’s everything you need to know…

The Wildcats face the Magpies in their final pre-season friendly and, more importantly, will welcome back spectators for the first time in 18 months.

It’s sure to be a special day, and here’s all the key information on the North East derby:

Newcastle United Women have already started their league campaign – and what a start it was.

Becky Langley’s side thumped FC United of Manchester 6-0 away from home to ensure they sit top of the tree in the FA Women’s National League Division One North after the first round of fixtures.

The Magpies have a number of players to watch in their side – including George Gibson, who netted twice on the opening day of the season.

Katie Barker was also on the scoresheet in the North West and will be one to watch up top, and goalkeeper Grace Donnelly is a reliable presence too.

Durham Women will be without forward Nicki Gears who remains sidelined with a long-term injury.

Speaking ahead of the game, captain Sarah Wilson said: “It’s good to get a local derby to finish off with.

“We know Newcastle will be a massive test preparing us to go into the start of the season.

“They’ve already started their season so we know they will be flying.”

Due to this being the first test event held at the ground, tickets for the game will be limited in number and so supporters are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance HERE.

Please note that Sister Club and RTC discounts will not be applied for this fixture.

Tickets are priced at the following rates:

  • Adults – £7
  • Students – £5
  • Children (U16) – £3

A small number of tickets will be available on the day of the game but these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis following the turnstiles opening at 11am. Cash, card and contactless payments will be accepted.

We do, however, strongly advise supporters to purchase in advance to avoid disappointment.

All tickets sold are unreserved and seating will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

For Season Ticket holders, this game will be included as part of their package and so there is no need to purchase an additional ticket.

Season Ticket cards will also be able to collect from the turnstile on the day of the game – please bring your confirmation email to collect yours.

Any uncollected Season Ticket cards will be available to collect ahead of our FA Women’s Championship game with Watford on Sunday, August 29.

For player sponsors who are entitled to Season Tickets as part of their package, your cards have been posted this week. Should they not arrive prior to the Newcastle United fixture, simply say your business or individual name on the turnstile to gain admission.

Food and drink will be available courtesy of Fat Frank’s Food Truck – which will be offering a range of hot and cold drinks and food.

Find out more about them HERE.

The truck will be situated to your left as you enter the turnstiles.

Car parking will be available in the main sports centre car park at Maiden Castle.
