Sarah Wilson: “We’re Always So Grateful For Them”

We caught-up with skipper Sarah Wilson after the final day win over Birmingham City.

Here’s what she had to say…

On her goal:

“It was a set piece we’ve been working on this week, so it’s nice to see that coming off. Beth put it on an absolute plate which is incredible – you know what type of delivery you’re going to get.

“I’ve had a couple of chances this season that haven’t come off so it’s nice to finally get one on the last day of the season.”

On the crowd:

“It’s unbelievable. If you look at the crowds that we’re getting. We’re a standalone club and there’s other stuff going on in the North East and they’re still coming to our games which is incredible.

“It just shows how much work goes on to put into that, they don’t just come for the sake of it, they come because people work to get here. It was incredible. It’s just really important.

“They’ve spurred us on all season, we’re always so grateful for them to be there. It’s not even just at home, it’s at away games as well.”

On the 23/24 season now it’s done:

“This league is absolutely relentless and it’s unforgiving. We’ve been very very close so many times this season and we know we’re not a bad team. We should be in a better position, especially after those kind of performances today and last week at Reading.

“The performances have been there, but it has been challenging. It’s been a challenging couple of years, but a win is so nice to finish on and sets us up nicely for next season.”

On the aim for next season:

“We just need to continue to build. We’ve had a transitional couple of years and we’re honestly looking to build. We’ll grow the squad and we’ll just keep pushing and we’ll get the club back to where it needs to be.”
