Durham Women sign England youth international Emma Brown

Durham Women are delighted to announce the signing of central defender Emma Brown.

A former England youth international, Brown has spent time on trial with the Blues this summer and featured as a trialist in our pre-season friendly against Celtic.

Brown, who hails from Teesside, began her career at Middlesbrough – progressing through their youth set-up and into their senior ranks.

While with Boro, the centre back gained international recognition – featuring for the Lionesses’ under-17 and under-19 sides, including at the UEFA Women’s European U17 Championships.

She headed Stateside in 2020 and teamed-up with Nova Southeastern University – going on to make 39 appearances over her three years with the Sharks.

Her 2023 campaign caught the eye, as Brown helped lead the team to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, while earning individual recognition through First Team All-SSC and Second Team United Soccer Coaches All-South Region honours.

Brown transferred to Middle Tennessee State for her Senior and Graduate years, leading the team in minutes across her two seasons while being named in the 2025 All-Conference USA Second Team and All-CUSA All-Academic Team.

And now Brown returns to the North East to pen her first professional contract with Durham.

“It feels absolutely amazing, I’m really excited for the season.

“It’s unreal to be back home. My mum and dad have already bought a season ticket! They’re so excited to come and watch week in, week out and I’m so excited to be back in the North East.

“The fans are great and the atmosphere and environment – we want to keep pushing and win as many games as possible, and the fans definitely help with that.”
