A second-half equaliser from Michaela Foster saw Durham Women’s claim a point against Ipswich Town Women in a rainy battle at Maiden Castle.
Rianna Dean’s opener in the 59th minute came after a spell of pressure from the Tractor Girls, but the dominance didn’t last long as Beth Hepple’s free kick found Foster to fire home the 65th minute equaliser for the Blues.
Ipswich travelled to Maiden Castle with only one win and seven goals in the Women’s Super League 2, whilst Durham looked to extend their gap from the bottom two after an up-and-down first half of the season.
Durham dominated a slow first half, with the first real chance coming from Mariana Speckmaier who managed to get the shot away despite being challenged by Ipswich goalkeeper Natalia Negri.
Hepple took the ball from a corner and ran through a number of Ipswich defenders before having her strike deflected.
Ipswich came out firing in the second half, with a shot from Dean headed away, but the Tractor Girls’ number 9 posed too much for Durham, as her tap in at the near post gave the visitors the lead after Sophie Peskett’s cross.
Ipswich’s lead didn’t last long, just six minutes passed before a free kick taken by Hepple found Foster to head in the equaliser.
The Blues continued to fight back, with a penalty appeal just two minutes later after a challenge on Speckmaier.
The points were shared at Maiden Castle after a fiery final 10 minutes which saw Ipswich hit the crossbar and a shot from Poppy Pritchard just miss the target.
