Match Report | Durham 1 – 2 Charlton

Durham Women fell to a first defeat of the season against Charlton Athletic

Beth Hepple’s 100th club goal put Durham ahead in the first-half, but The Addicks’ two late goals secured Charlton the three points.

The first big chance of the game came from Charlton, with Cat Sheppard denying Kiera Skeels header, before Hannah Blake cleared the rebound off the line.

In the 31st minute, Blake sent a strike towards goal from 12-yards out, but her effort fell narrowly wide.

Shortly after, Hepple opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, confidently finding the ball from Blake’s cross into the box, tapping home from close-range.

With 15 minutes remaining, Gillian Kenney drew the visitors level, after Lucy Fitzgerald’s initial effort was clawed away by Sheppard.

The Addicks secured the three points with seven minutes left to play. Charlotte Newsham’s ball into the box was latched onto by Fitzgerald, who turned and fired into the top left corner.
