Durham Women are delighted to announce the signing of forward Lucy Watson.
The 21-year-old, who last played for Barclays Women’s Super League champions Chelsea, joins the Blues after spending recent weeks training with the side.
She becomes the club’s tenth summer signing and teams up with the side ahead of the remainder of the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 season.
Watson began her career with Doncaster Belles, progressing through the youth ranks at the historic side before joining Sheffield United.
And it was with the Blades that the forward made a splash – bursting onto the scene in 2020 having made her debut at just 16.
In the 2021/22 campaign, Watson netted eight goals in 22 games from the left flank and this form attracted the interest of a host of top clubs.
Chelsea won the race for her signature in the summer of 2022 and the forward went on to spend time on loan with Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Ipswich Town during her time with the London side.
In her most recent spell with Ipswich, Watson helped the Tractor Girls to the FA WNL Southern Division title.
The forward has also been capped for England at U17 and U19 level – and joins Durham ready to make her mark.
Speaking after sealing the deal, she said, “I’m so excited to be here, I can’t wait to meet all of the fans and hopefully have a great season in blue.”
