Beth Hepple’s stunning goal saw Durham Women beat Liverpool in a behind closed doors pre-season friendly.
The midfielder struck ten minutes from time to secure victory for the Blues, who more than matched their top flight hosts throughout.
In the searing heat at Melwood, it was Liverpool who threatened first as Cornelia Kapocs fired wide at the near post.
Abbey Jones then forced Rafaela Boggrafe into a smart save after she swivelled and shot in the box.
Ceri Holland then struck the outside of the post from the edge of the box before Kirsty MacLean prodded over from Capocs’ low centre.
But Durham remained a threat and Mollie Lambert had the ball pinched off her toe as she looked to convert after a quick counter-attack.
Substitute Mia Enderby then poked wide for the hosts, but as the contest entered its final stages it was the Blues who looked most likely.
Mariana Speckmaier was denied a debut goal by a stunning Faye Kirby save when one-on-one, before Abbi Grant fired wide after being played in by Lambert.
But the visitors would seal the win in the dying embers as Hepple picked up a second ball, drove forward and unleashed an unstoppable effort into the top corner from 20 yards.
