Durham sign England youth international Abbey Jones

Durham Women are delighted to announce the signing of England youth international Abbey Jones.

The 22-year-old joins the Blues having spent the last four years with the University of Connecticut in the USA.

An attack-minded midfielder, Jones came through the ranks with Derby County, Birmingham City and Leicester City before joining Aston Villa.

She shone in the Villains’ Professional Game Academy side, captaining the side on occasion, before heading to the States.

Recruited by UCONN, Jones spent a successful four years with the programme – becoming a regular scorer and playmaker while also being named Team Captain during her Senior year.

Her impressive performances have also brought about national recognition, with Jones recognised by the Young Lionesses at U15, U16 and U18 level.

And now, having spent time training with the club in recent weeks, Jones is ready for her next chapter at Maiden Castle.

“It’s been great, the girls are lovely and welcoming, I’m very excited”, she said.

“I’m an attacking player, I like to drive at the defence, I like to create goals and I have very big team ambitions, to go up.”
