Lauren Briggs commits future to Durham Women

Durham Women are delighted to confirm that Lauren Briggs has committed her future to the club and signed a new contract.

One of the longest-serving players at Maiden Castle, Briggs began her journey with the club as a youngster and was a key part of the growth that led to the side being accepted into the FA Women’s Super League in 2014.

After a brief spell away, Briggs returned to Durham ahead of the Spring Series in 2017 and has since gone on to make 142 appearances in Blue.

20 of those games came last season, with Briggs helping the side to a strong fourth placed finish – while also netting a crucial goal in the comeback win away at Blackburn Rovers.

And after signing her new deal, Briggs is targeting another successful season.

“I’m really pleased,” she said.

“Off the back of a really successful season the opportunity was given to me, and we’re moving in the right direction so I was really pleased to sign another contract for a club that I’ve been at for a long time.

“Last season, as a team we felt really together and I think you could see that in our performances. Of course we’ve gone away and reflected and there’s things we want to improve on, but there’s a really big opportunity to go and show what we can do in the new season.

“The fans here have pushed us over the line four, five or six times during the season. It doesn’t matter whether we’re home or away, they’re in their numbers supporting us and we’re all really looking forward to seeing them in the new season.”
