The First Interview | Alice Griffiths

By Dom Aberdeen

We caught-up with midfielder Alice Griffiths after she became Durham Women’s third signing of the winter transfer window.

Here’s what the midfielder had to say…

On joining Durham...

“It’s good, I’m really happy to be here.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to come and hopefully see what I can do.

“Durham are flying in the league, so I’m joining a team that’s really competitive and it seems like a great place to come.”

On her experience in the Championship…

“Obviously, I’ve had a few games for Southampton and being at Charlton previously, I’ve picked up a lot of experience.

“I think that it’s a really tough league and it’s only getting more tough as the years go by.

“I’m hoping I can bring that [experience] to the team.”

On what Durham fans can expect…

“I’m more of a holding midfielder, I think I’m quite aggressive in my style of play.

“I like to get on the ball a lot and try and get the team on the front foot.”

On playing in front of the Blue Army…

“I was only here last week [with Southampton], it is clearly a club that has a lot of support and they have a lot of ambition.

“They’re always in and around the top of the table, so it is great to be a part of that now.”

On a big few months ahead…

“There’s really exciting opportunities coming up.

“I want to put myself in the best position possible to try and make that Euros squad.

“I think being here at Durham, it’s a great club, and hopefully it can help me push forward.”

On Sunday’s trip to Sheffield United…

“I’m just looking to get involved in any way I can, really.

“The team is already doing well and performing at a really high standard, so yeah, hopefully I can add in any way.”
