We caught-up with Durham head coach Adam Furness after the Blues exited the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Here’s what he had to say…
On the game as a whole…
“The initial feeling is obviously one of disappointment having lost the game, but we were under no illusions as to the size of the task.
“Brighton started brightly and showed the quality they have and unfortunately the goals conceded really hurt.
“At that stage we are really hanging on, but to see the squad stand up to the task and then produce that second half performance was so pleasing.”
On a spirited second half showing…
“We needed to reset things at the break tactically and we then challenged the players to show that Durham spirit which we then saw in abundance.
“I thought our goal was a really well worked move at pace and just reward for the work the players got through.”

On two big tests against Barclays WSL sides in the last week…
“It’s been a tough week!
“To face two top WSL sides away midweek would stretch any club, but to see us still running hard in the 90th minute says a lot about our group.
“The speed of play in both games has been the standout feature and if we are to take that concept into our league games going forward it can only help us develop.”
On navigating a congested period of games…
“It’s been a huge effort from the players and staff to navigate this period.
“The players have accepted the necessity to rotate and every member of the sqaud has contributed massively.
“We now need another huge performance on Sunday at Sheffield United before we can build in some additional recovery time.
“Also, a huge thanks to the fans who have travelled to support us again – it’s means so much to us all to have you cheering us on.”
