We caught up with Durham head coach Adam Furness after a tough result at Bristol City.
Here’s what he had to say…
Furness on the game…
“Really difficult to take.
“We ran into a really good Bristol side today and fair play to them, I thought they were really good.
“For us, not a Durham performance at all.
“I think it comes on the back of a third game in seven days and unfortunately some players out injured and some players unavailable today, we’ve just come up well short.”
Furness on our chances…
“0-0 we had a great chance, Lily’s unfortunately not been able to put that one away and it’s a huge moment in the game if we go in front.
“Perhaps the outcome is slightly different but in reality, over the course of the 90, Bristol are worthy winners.”
Furness on a busy week and availability…
“We don’t have the biggest squad as it is and then to lose the likes of Lauren out injured and Hannah not available in the squad today definitely takes its toll.
“Some of the players who have come in haven’t played for a while so naturally it takes them a little bit of time to get up to the rhythm.
“I just think the intensity in the seven days has probably taken it out the legs for a few of the players.
“As I say, no excuses on the day, we just weren’t up to it and well done to Bristol.”
Furness on the Christmas break…
“It’s a reset over Christmas, another opportunity for the players to rest up a little bit and hopefully recover from some of those niggles that they’ve got.
“2025 is another exciting time for us – we need to come back, we need to be super positive around where we’re at in the league.
“We’ve had a really good season so far, one game is not going to define our season today.
“Collectively staff and players, we use it as a reset and re-energise, come back in January and let’s really go for it.”
Furness on the fans…
“To hear that blue army chant go around here when the girls are really struggling, it means so much to the players and staff here.
“As always, a massive, massive thanks to the supporters that have travelled.”
