We caught up with Durham Women head coach Adam Furness after a derby win in the Women’s League Cup.
Here’s what he had to say…
Furness on the win…
“Yes, they keep coming.
“It’s been a good couple days, obviously first with the Birmingham win in the FA Cup and now tonight.
“What a derby, what a game – goals, action, sending offs – but yes, just absolutely delighted.
“Super proud of the group tonight – huge, huge effort coming off the back of that Birmingham display to come out here again and do that.
“Over the moon.”
Furness on qualifying for the quarter-finals…
“Somebody’s just told us there that we’re the only Championship team through, so super proud again of what we’ve achieved so far.
“Fingers crossed the draw is kind to us this time and a home draw would be good.
“I think whoever we play now we know we’re going to be up against some real though opposition but that’s the challenges that you want and when the opportunities come in the League Cup and the FA Cup, I think you’ve got to really embrace it and take the challenge to the team.”
Furness on the goals…
“The first goal came so quickly, it probably shocked everyone in the ground.
“A minute gone and we’re already 1-0 up.
“To be fair to Sunderland, I thought they came back really strongly there and got the equaliser and probably had the better of the first half.
“But second half, again, I thought a really comprehensive performance from us and a great goal from Kai to seal the win.”
Furness on the fans…
“They keep turning out and keep getting behind the team.
“Like you say, brilliant to see them.
“We really appreciate their support and a massive thanks for all the games and matches that they’ve been to so far this season.”
