Head coach Adam Furness reflects on victory at Birmingham City as Durham progress to the Fourth Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup
A hard fought win to get us through to the next round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
‘It sure is, I think they are all hard fought when you come to places like this, there’s no other way to do it.’
‘Up against a really good side, you’ve got to dig deep, you’ve got to do some of the nasty outer possession stuff to get you through and thankfully we’ve done that in abundance and we’re into the hat.
It was arguably the toughest draw Durham could have got against a side we know quite well.
‘A really tough draw on paper when it came out I don’t think either team would have particularly fancied each other, but as it turned out, we came out on top.’
A great first goal for Grace, how delighted are you for her?
‘Yeah brilliant, a great team goal.’
‘To see Grace bombing up from right back there, a great little lay on from Carly, with a really cool and quality finish from Grace.’
Two more away games to go until the Christmas break, a big push needed from the team.
‘Yeah, well I think it’s been really good, no hangover after the international break, and we’ve come out and really performed.’
‘Now we’ve got two away games, Sunderland mid-week which is a local one and then a big trip to Bristol to finish off the fixtures before Christmas.’
‘No easy games, they keep coming thick and fast, but hopefully we can recover the girls as quickly as possible, utilise the squad across the two games and hopefully set us off for a positive New Year.’
We had a fan bus travelling again, how fantastic were they?
‘Incredible, absolutely brilliant.’
‘The weather, the way it was, to see so many Durham fans at St Andrews, cheering the girls on, they were absolutely brilliant and a huge thanks to them.’
