Durham midfielder Michaela Foster caught up with us to preview Sunday’s trip to Birmingham City in the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup
The two highest-ranked teams currently in the competition go head-to-head at St Andrew’s Stadium on 8th December at 14:00.
After a week off, how are the squad feeling?
‘Excited for our big game.
‘Everyone came in feeling refreshed and ready to go.’
Our FA Cup journey begins on Sunday, what is it like playing in such a prestigious competition?
‘It is really exciting.
‘To come in at this point and be able to pull anyone is exciting.
‘To pull Birmingham away is a big match but we’re ready for it and ready to go down there and perform well.’
A tough opponent awaits in Birmingham – what can you expect from an outfit like them?
‘It’ll be a big game.
‘We’ve come up against them once and we showed them what we’re made of on our home field so we’re ready to go to their place.
‘To play on an amazing pitch like St Andrew’s is exciting but we’re excited to go down there and show them what we can do on that field too.’
A great victory Clubs met in the league like you say, but the Cup is always a different game isn’t it?
‘Yeah, absolutely anything can happen.
‘We know that anyone can be beaten on the day so we need to be prepared but we are excited to go out there.’
It’s the start of a big 7 days for the team as a midweek derby and a long trip to Bristol come afterwards – are the approaches different each games as they are in 3 separate competitions?
‘Not really, to be fair.
‘Obviously, we’re focusing on Birmingham at the moment and we just have to take it one game at a time.
‘So our full focus is on this first FA Cup round for us and to go out and get a result and then we’ll focus on Sunderland and then Bristol [City].
‘Like you say, a big week so it’s just about management and making sure we’re getting the right information at the right time.’
The Blue Army will be making their way down to St Andrews with you – what is your message to them?
‘We appreciate the support no matter what.
‘Whether it’s at home and especially when it’s away and we know it’s a long trip.
‘We can’t wait to hear them because we always hear them chanting no matter what stadium we’re in so we’re excited to go out there and perform for them
