Durham Women captain Sarah Wilson sat down with us to reflect on an unbeaten November and a superb first half of the Barclays Women’s Championship season.
The defender has been a mainstay in the back line, keeping three clean sheets in the process, and here’s what she had to say…
Wilson on an unbeaten November…
“It was really good.
“It is nice when you can come away with that feeling, it shows all the hard work that we’ve been doing off the pitch and now it is coming across in games.
“So yeah, it has been a nice feeling.”
Wilson on what contributes towards that form...
“I think it’s just hard work and understanding where we’re at and understanding that we can go away and we can do these things and just believing that we can achieve what we want to achieve.
“Having everyone on board and understanding their role is just really important and it is great to be in the position that we are.”
Wilson on her favourite moments of the season so far…
“To be honest, we’ve had a lot.
“Obviously, the Newcastle fixture has to be up there – more so the fans as opposed to the result because being able to celebrate with them like that was unbelievable.

“Getting the win over London City was another big game, but there’s been loads like I say and it is good that there’s been so many and we’re still keeping our feet so grounded that we’re not letting things run away from us.
“We’re enjoying it and we know that it is straight back in to be ready to go again.”
Wilson on overcoming challenges…
“It’s been tricky to be honest because we played away at Charlton and were deflated coming away from that result, but it was so important that we came away from that result, put our heads down and get on with it.
“It is what it is and the games come thick and fast.
“I think the way that we have been able to come in and turn it around has showed this season because there has been times that we haven’t been up to our standard but we’re able to understand that as a group.”
Wilson’s message to the fans…
“Just thank you, thank you so much.
“Especially for going away after last season and coming back fresh because we know that last season was really difficult but we cannot thank them enough.
“The home support has been outstanding as has the away support, they are always unbelievable.
“We just want to keep on going for them so if they can keep supporting us we know that we have that 12th player on the pitch.”
Wilson on December…
“Yeah, still massive games.
“The FA Cup draw to Birmingham City and then Bristol City is huge – a derby in the middle of that too – they are some of the strongest sides in our division.
“We’ve done so many away games this season so if anything we know we can go away from home and get something.
“We just need to keep going, keep pushing and know in ourselves that we have each other’s backs.”
