Match Reaction | Adam Furness on Sheffield United cup clash

By Dom Aberdeen

We caught-up with Head Coach Adam Furness after Durham’s penalty win over Sheffield United in the Women’s League Cup.

Here’s what he had to say…

Furness on the game…

“Tough conditions today, the wind was swirling and it never makes it easy for the players to play how we want to.

“A draw in the 90 is probably about right on the balance of play, then Anna King comes up with a couple of saves for that extra bonus point.”

Furness on Anna King’s penalty heroics...

“Over the moon for her.

“She’s got a real knack of saving penalties, and it was a brilliant double save for us.”

Furness on Eleanor Ryan-Doyle’s goal…

“We say that about both boxes, the girls have to give it their all.

“Eleanor has followed up really well on the goalkeeper’s spill and it was super brave of her to come up with the equaliser.”

Furness on an unbeaten November…

“It is a really nice feeling.

“It is one that we really need to make sure we build on, if we could run into December with that as well we could bring 2024 to a really positive close.”

Furness on our final Women’s League Cup game…

“By the time that game comes, it will be winner takes all and potentially the winner of that is through to the knockouts where some exciting potential ties lie ahead.

“It will be a real Christmas cracker, two local teams with lots on the line, exciting times ahead.”

Furness’ message to the fans…

“To see the numbers come in through the gate has been incredible.

“The support we get here at Maiden Castle is fantastic and in fact away too has been great.

“It is a huge thanks from me personally and a huge thanks from the squad because it means so much to have the fans behind us.”
