Abbi Grant is well and truly on the comeback trail – and is ‘raring to go’ in Blue.
The forward joined the Blues over the summer but, after suffering an injury during pre-season, underwent a hamstring tendon repair before a spell on the sidelines.
And with a return date in the New Year currently being targeted, Grant is entering the final stages of her rehab under the care of the club’s medical staff.
“Things are going really well,” she said, when she sat down with the official website this week.
“The whole staff and everyone have been really on it and have been helping me a lot.
“It’s been hard but we’re on the right track.
“Each week I can do new things, I’m stronger in different positions and my hamstring is much stronger than it was the week before.
“There’s new targets and I’m reaching them every week so it’s a step closer.”
And while an injury wasn’t the start to life in the North East that Grant wanted, she’s keen to find the positives.
“When I’m back, I’m hoping that I’m stronger than ever and faster than ever,” admitted the forward.
“I don’t want to say it’s a blessing, but I’m hoping this is going to make me better, stronger and even more determined than what I already was.
“You’ve got to look at positives and I do think this is going to make me an even better player.”
Key to maintaining her motivation during the tricky periods of her injury has been the support of Grant’s teammates.
From encouraging text messages to support in the gym, the squad have rallied around the Scottish international.
“Everyone has been so nice,” she added.
“They were messaging me and seeing if I was alright, and now being around everyone is so easy because everyone is so down to earth.
“They make me even more motivated to be back.
“They’re all really nice and want me to be back, they give me an extra motivation as well.
“I just can’t wait to play with everyone finally!”
And so too has the input of the club’s medical team been crucial.
“They’re on it and know what they’re doing,” said Grant.
“They put a lot of time and effort into helping me and making sure I get back as quickly as possible.”
And with her return now closing in, how excited is the 28-year-old to get back to action?
“In summer, I was absolutely buzzing and raring to go to show the whole league who I am.
“Now I think it’s going to be even better in January.
“I’m just raring to go. I’m so excited to show everyone and give the team an extra boost.”
