Tatiana Saunders’ penalty save proved crucial in Durham’s 3-2 win over London City Lionesses – and we caught up with her after the game.

Here’s what she had to say…

Saunders on the game…

“It was a great result.

“It shows what we’re about as a club and our aspirations for the season.

“We had the momentum [at half-time] but we knew they’d make adjustments and come out strong – but we were ready.

“As a team, you might not always have the possession but it’s who scores the most goals and that was us today.”

Saunders on her penalty stop…

“As a goalkeeper you do your best to help the team.

“A penalty save give everyone a boost, it gives me a boost and it’s nice to help the team as much as I can.”

Saunders on turning our focus to the cup…

“It’s making sure we take the momentum from today and keep building.

“We have high aspirations for the season and we know what we’re capable of, so it’s working every day to get the one per cent better.”

Saunders on the fans…

“Our fans are terrific.

“They’re so loud and they give us the boost. The last few seconds when you’re grinding to get the win, having your fans supporting you is amazing.”
