We spoke with head coach Adam Furness after the 3-2 win over London City Lionesses.
Here’s what he had to say…
Furness on the result…
“It’s fantastic.
“After the draw last week it was really important we got ourselves three points today with a home game.
“It was really tough opposition with London City, but we’re absolutely delighted.
“It’s a statement from Durham, but there’s 11 games to go and a real long way to go.
“But in order to be at the top end of the table you have to beat those teams in and around you and London City will definitely be there by the end of the season.
“Hopefully we’ll be among that as well.”
Furness on the team spirit…
“I don’t think there’s another bunch like them in the league.
“What they go through and their desire to keep staying in games, fighting and scrapping and doing the dirty stuff out of possession – that really helps us – is second to none.
“That really showed today.
“Was it our best performance football wise? Potentially not, but there’s different ways to win games.
“We came with a real plan today and the execution of it was fantastic.”
Furness on our home form…
“The players do it, because in order for it to be a fortress they have to run, they have to press and make that pitch as small as it can possibly be.
“Game after game, they do it and it turns into a fortress.”
Furness on next weekend’s cup clash with Sheffield United…
“It’s momentum. You win games and you want the next one to come.
“We want to keep progressing in the League Cup as it is, and winning is a habit.
“We’ll go into that Sheffield United game with a win exactly what we’re going for.”
