Michaela Foster reflects on her first month at Durham Women

It’s approaching a month since Michaela Foster put pen to paper on a contract with Durham Women.

And having now racked-up a number of appearances since her arrival from New Zealand, Laura Smith caught-up with the defender to find how she’s acclimatising to life in the North East and the Barclays Women’s Championship.

Foster on her first month…

“It’s been an amazing month and it’s gone quite fast.

“It’s been great to get out there on the pitch with the girls in training, but to get more and more minutes in games is great.

“I’m feeling really welcomed.”

Foster on the Barclays Women’s Championship…

“It’s a different type of football and the quality of players is really good.

“Even within our Durham team, at training we always push each other and that’s what I wanted – I want to be pushed.

“As a player you have to be in that sort of environment and to be playing against teams where you never know what could happen on the day, that’s a great league to be in.”

Foster on her first taste of North East derbies…

“The derbies were awesome.

“Obviously we would have liked to get two from two, but to feel the fans’ support behind us – especially in those games, but in all of the games – has been amazing.

“It was great to make my debut at home as well, and the derbies were an amazing occasion to soak in.”

Foster on Sunday’s trip to Blackburn Rovers…

“We’ve got a bit of knowledge on Blackburn this season having already played them in the cup.

“You can take a bit of confidence from that game to go down and come back and get the win.

“We’ve grown in the few weeks since we’ve played them so we’ll go in with confidence, but also with respect for them as a team and what they can do.”

Foster on the Durham fans…

“They’ve been huge.

“You hear them on home and away trips and we do this for them as well as ourselves and our teammates.

“This club is about a family vibe and that includes the fans as well.”

Foster’s message to the Blue Army…

“Be loud and continue to do what you do.

“We’ll go out and keep trying to perform better and bounce back from our most recent result – so keep doing what you’re doing.|
