Match Preview | Lauren Briggs on Sunderland clash

Lauren Briggs spoke with the external media ahead of Sunday’s River Wear Derby with Sunderland.

Here’s what she had to say…

Briggs on the River Wear Derby…

“We’re really excited.

“We’ve just come off the back of a win in another derby and I think Sunderland will be an exciting game.

“I believe we have the confidence and momentum to go into the game and really challenge them, and hopefully take the three points.

“We’ve got to respect Sunderland and they have some real quality in their side.”

Briggs on the season so far…

“It’s a new environment – there’s been change within the club and a new manager has come in.

“It’s exciting. You start the season afresh, everyone starts at the same line and we got that first win that was crucial.

“We then got the second and then had a really good performance against Charlton where we could only take positives.

“To then go and beat Newcastle, we’ve had a really good start – but we have to stay humble and grounded.”

Briggs on the game in the North East…

“It’s huge and for the North East it’s really important.

“It’s great for the fans, the communities – but it’s very competitive.”

Briggs on the fans and outside noise…

“We have a great following, a great fanbase and every game we go out there to try and put on the best show and get those three points.

“I’m really excited for it, and to be honest I don’t think you have much time to think about the outside noise.

“If we concentrate and execute our game plan to the best of our ability I’m really confident within our squad.”
