We caught-up with Adam Furness after Durham Women came from behind to kick-off their Women’s League Cup campaign with victory over Blackburn Rovers.
Here’s what the Head Coach had to say…
Furness on the result and performance…
“Overall it’s a win and it keeps the momentum going which is really important.
“When you play against a team like Blackburn and you give them a lead, it becomes a little bit difficult. They had their tails up and we found it difficult to break them down.
“In the second half we had a change of shape and personnel and we were really front-footed. We deservedly got ourselves back in the game and it was a great goal from Kai.
“At that point there’s probably going to only be one winner. Thankfully it was us and we saved the drama of a penalty shootout.”
Furness on the winning goal…
“Eleanor has that in our locker.
“When she gets in those situations, you’d bank on her to slot it away as she has done tonight.
“It’s a great finish to seal a good victory.”
Furness on the strength of the squad coming to the fore…
“There were changes and players have come in.
“They all made a real statement for a place in the side and the players that have come off the bench have helped us.
“That’s really important.”
