Adam Furness reacts to Durham Women’s defeat at Charlton Athletic

We spoke with Adam Furness after Durham’s late defeat at Charlton Athletic.

Here’s what he had to say…

Furness on the game…

“Performance wise, we’re really pleased.

“We’re totally disappointed with how it’s finished and I don’t think we deserved that at all.

“Deeply frustrated, but in the cold light of day we’re pretty happy with the performance.

“First half we were really solid and stuck to the game plan and we’d prepped well all week.

“We came with a way of playing to try and beat Charlton and I think first half we were excellent. We probably just need to be more ruthless and clinical and we could’ve been two or three up.

“The second half was far more balanced and Charlton came back into it, as you’d expect with the quality of players that they’ve got.

“But up to the penalty we were managing them fairly well, it’s just disappointing that these things happen in games and really change things.”

Furness on defensive resilience…

“Charlton had a lot of the ball but that was part of how we set up to play.

“We allowed them to have the ball and dictate possession but from open play, they didn’t have many chances.

“They were dangerous from set pieces and we had to be on our toes but we did that fairly well.

“You just come away really frustrated with the outcome.”

Furness on bouncing back…

“There’s no easy games as we know, but to get back to Maiden Castle with our home fans behind us – it’s an opportunity to get three points on the board and keep going.”
