Lee Sanders: “We Couldn’t Have Asked For More”

Head of Football, Lee Sanders, spoke to us after the Barclays Women’s Championship game at Reading.

Here’s what he said to say on the fixture:

Sanders on the performance…

“Firstly, hugely disappointed for the players. We couldn’t have asked for more from every one of them.

“We’ve had ten players for two thirds of the game and it’s shown the character, heart and spirit the team have and we are just so proud of them and the performance that they have put in today.

“Any other day, we could have had two penalties and the sending-off is particularly harsh when you look at it.

“We looked solid and every player has literally worked their socks off.

“We’ve battled hard and created chances while limiting Reading and we’ve done it under really difficult circumstances today and the last week.

“Adam, George, Steve and the MDT staff have been excellent at instilling a slightly different approach and we just have to apply ourselves in the same way next week for the final game.”

Sanders on the supporters…

“The fans were excellent today and we can’t thank them enough. It felt like a home game.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t take any points but we were in the game until the 98th minute and competed well and I believe that’s what they want to see from our teams.”

Sanders on our final game of the season…

“We’ve got Birmingham next week at home and we know we’ll have a massive crowd behind us. If we apply ourselves in the same way we did today, I’m sure we’ll put in another good performance.”
