Claire Ditchburn: “We have to focus on that now”

Claire Ditchburn spoke to us after the defeat to Crystal Palace in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

Here’s what the Head Coach had to say…

Ditchburn on the game…

“I think my initial reflection is that the first half we performed very well.

“We went in at half-time at 1-1 and it had been a really tight game with one of the best teams in the league, and then unfortunately we’ve come out in the second half and we haven’t maintained those standards.

“When you’re playing a team as clinical as Crystal Palace then they can really punish you for that.”

Ditchburn on the strong first half showing…

“It’s just unfortunate that we couldn’t have maintained that for the 90 minutes.

“I felt like we were really taking the game to them and created a lot of chances, but as soon as you’re off it perhaps even just by 10 per cent, then it’s difficult against a team like Crystal Palace.”

Ditchburn on how we respond…

“We’ll go away, lick our wounds, and come back.

“The fact of the matter is this group are competitors. At the moment we’re in a bad run of form and it’s difficult, we can’t deny that and nobody is hiding from it.

“We all want to fight. We all want to compete. We care so passionately about the club and have such a motivation and I have no doubt they’ll come in and want to train, want to play and put things right.”

Ditchburn on our next game – against Reading…

“The only way we’re going to get out this situation is remaining focused and working hard.

“We don’t have any other option than to do that.

“The game against Reading, we have to be realistic – it’s a massive six pointer. We have to focus on that now.”
