We caught-up with Head Coach, Claire Ditchburn, after the 5-3 defeat at Sunderland.
Here’s what she had to say on the River Wear Derby…
Ditchburn on the game…
“I think it’s obviously a big sucker-punch.
“We’ve done fantastically well to get ourselves back into the game at 2-0 down and to get it back it to 2-2, and then to do the same to get it back to 3-3.
“I just don’t think we’ve managed those critical moments of the game.
“We’ve shown loads of character, bags of dedication and a great attitude – but the goals we conceded came at really important moments.
“There were sucker-punches but the girls have picked themselves up really well, but against a team that’s full of confidence you can’t afford to give them that momentum.
Ditchburn on the final three games…
“I don’t think it’s putting too fine a point on it to say they’re three cup finals.
“That’s how we’re approaching them – three massive games to finish the season.
“We’re looking forward to them and we’ll be ready for them.”
Ditchburn on Sarah Robson…
“Unfortunately Mac picked up an injury and she’s rehabilitating from it now.
“I don’t think we’ll see her again before next season.”
Ditchburn on our incredible away support…
“I thought the atmosphere today was great and it felt like a real derby from the get-go.
“We heard them throughout the game and they know how important they are to us, and we’ll need them for the next three games and moving forward.”
