Skipper Sarah Wilson says Durham Women are ready for the challenge posed by table-topping Sunderland this weekend.
The Blues head to Eppleton CW on Sunday, March 24 (2pm kick-off) to take on the Black Cats in the latest River Wear Derby.
A bumper crowd is expected for a game that sees plenty at stake for both sides – and among that number will be a large number of travelling Durham fans.
And ahead of the game, we caught-up with Wilson to get her thoughts ahead of the crucial clash…
Wilson on our last outing…
“There were so many positives.
“It was frustrating conceding in the manner we did, but we know that scoreline didn’t reflect the game whatsoever.
“We’ve got so many positives to take from that and we’ve been building on that all week.
“We’re ready and we’re excited.”
Wilson on the build-up to Sunday’s River Wear Derby…
“It’s good and it’s exciting.
“It’s good to get out locally too and everyone is really looking forward to it.
“Obviously there’s hype around it but we’ve been fully focused the whole time.
“The game is really important for both clubs and there’s a lot on the line for both clubs, so it’s important we focus from the very beginning.”
Wilson on Sunderland…
“It’s going to be the same [a close game] again.
“Obviously with it being a local derby it’s going to bring that bit of extra edge, but we know the type of football both teams can play.
“It’s going to be a good one.”
Wilson on the importance of our fans on Derby Day…
“When we played at home the crowd was amazing, and even away in the Continental Cup it was outstanding and our fans made it feel like a home game at times.
“We’re hoping for the same again and we know they’ll bring the noise.”
