Grace Ayre believes Durham Women’s character and fighting spirit will prove crucial in the final five games of the season.
The Blues face a tricky end to the campaign which begins with the visit of promotion-chasing Charlton Athletic to Maiden Castle on Sunday, March 17 (12pm KO).
It’s a fixture that carries significance for both sides and Ayre herself, who will make her 49th appearance for Durham if selected.
And we caught-up with the defender ahead of that game…
Ayre on the draw at Blackburn…
“It was a really good performance.
“I think we were unlucky to go 1-0 down but we went in at half-time and knew what we had to do and put right.
“The performance in the second half was really good and we showed good character to come back.
“We’ve got a huge five games to come and we need to show that character and fighting spirit.”
Ayre on what to expect from Charlton…
“A really tough game.
“They’re a really strong opponent and are fighting at the top end of the table.
“They’ll be wanting to get a result but I’m sure we’ll give them a hard game.”
Ayre on potentially making her 50th Durham appearance…
“I feel like I’ve been here longer then 50 games!
“It’s really good and would be a really proud moment.
“I’ve been here since I was 14 so it’s a massive honour.”
Ayre on the importance of the fans…
“Home games, with the crowd behind us, it’s good.
“The fans made the Blackburn away game feel like a home game. They were loud, got behind us and helped us get the goals that we needed.
“I’m excited on Sunday to see them all and have them back us.”
