Claire Ditchburn: “Make Sure We’re Putting That Right”

Claire Ditchburn says Durham Women will be working hard to ensure their dominance translates to victories after a draw at Blackburn.

The visitors saw the majority of the ball at the Lancashire FA County Ground but were forced to settle for a point.

And we caught-up with the Head Coach after the game to get her verdict:

Ditchburn on the game…

“I think we’re disappointed to be honest.

“I felt like we had such dominance in the first half and to go in 1-0 down, we were making life hard for ourselves.

“The girls acknowledged that and put it right in the second half. We went 2-1 up and it was more than deserved.

“But then we’ve just taken our foot off the pedal ever so slightly and you can’t afford to do that in this league. Blackburn have got the equaliser, and towards the end it became really open and either team could have nicked it.

“Overall, we’re disappointed with that.”

Ditchburn on the performance…

“It was [dominance].

“We’ll go away and analyse the game but at the moment we’re all just scratching our heads wondering how we’ve not capitalised on that dominance.

“But that’s football and if you don’t capitalise on your dominance then you get punished and that’s what’s happened today.”

Ditchburn on the goals…

“The first goal is a brilliant team goal, all the way up the pitch.

“That’s what we’re capable of and we showed it for large spells today, so it was a really nice goal.

“The second was an own goal but there’s not a lot else the defender could have done.

“That came at a point in the game where we were creating chance after chance and putting them under a real sustained spell of pressure and you could tell that.

“That was reward for the amount of chances we were creating.”

Ditchburn on moving forward…

“We just need to start capitalising when we are getting these spells of possession in the opposition half, creating chances.

“The girls are well aware of that and have identified that themselves.

“We’ll move forward and make sure we’re really putting that right.”

Ditchburn on the away support…

“Unbeliveable.

“I felt like the last ten minutes of the game, they were driving us forward.

“It was fantastic to hear them and feel their energy, and we can’t thank them enough.”
