Lily Crosthwaite praised Durham Women’s character after they left it late to gain a point at Lewes.
The Blues levelled in the fifth minute of stoppage time to grab a draw at the Dripping Pan, having also scored in additional time during last year’s visit to East Sussex.
“We seem to love a late goal here!,” said Crosthwaite.
“We said at half-time that we knew it would be a game that was going to be decided by small differences.
“We had to make sure we got something from the game. Obviously we’re gutted not to get the win but to come away with a draw is great.”
“We were applying a lot of pressure,” she continued.
“Beth’s free-kick rattled the crossbar and then there was some unbeliveable defending before we hit them on the counter.”
It’s not the first time that Durham have struck late, and Crosthwaite believes that shows a lot about the character and drive of the team.
“Everyone is so, so driven,” she said.
“We want everything we can out of every game we go into and expect nothing less than working our socks off.”
Durham were backed by a vocal travelling support at Lewes, and Crosthwaite was keen to praise their impact.
“They’re massive and they’re so, so loud.
“They travel with us wherever we go and to say they’ve come to literally the other end of the country – it’s unbeliveable to have that support.
“To come that distance is just fantastic.”
