Lauren Briggs believes Sunday’s clash with Manchester City is a chance for Durham to show the progress they’ve been striving to attain.
The top tier side visit Maiden Castle in the Fourth Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and the midfielder admits there’s a good mood around the camp this week.
“We’re really looking forward to the fixture,” said Briggs.
“I think it’ll be a really competitive game. We’re going to get a lot of fans and it’s an opportunity to show what we’ve been working on and hopefully get something from the game.
“It’s an amazing event for the North East,” she continued.
“We’ll have a lot of fans and I know that it’ll be loud and we’re going to be proud to represent our fans.
“It’ll be a tough game but we’re prepared and hopefully we can get something from the game.”
A record crowd is expected at Maiden Castle after tickets sold-out quickly, and Briggs believes that home support could be key.
“It means a lot,” she said of the backing.
“Sometimes they’re the difference in pushing us over the line.
“We always have a great support and fan base and we’re really excited to put on a show and see them all.”
The game is also set to be broadcast by the BBC – representing the first time Durham have been televised.
“It’s something that we all dream of,” admitted Briggs.
“It’s important to stay grounded and try and get something from the game, but it’s a great opportunity for everyone and we’ve worked really hard for this.”
