Durham Women and Vision for Education have again provided a fantastic opportunity to local female students – after running a successful Primary School Football Tournament.
Four primary schools from around the region competed in a series of fixtures at Durham University Sports Park, the home of Durham Women, on Friday, November 17.
There were plenty of skills and smiles on display as a number of players played football for the first time – and it’s fair to say they were hooked!
And after strong performances from Broom Cottages, South Stanley and Shotton – it was South Hetton Primary School were crowned as the victors with a 100 per cent win record.
Every participant was given a certificate and a free ticket to Durham Women’s upcoming fixture with Southampton – while they were also able to meet the Durham Women squad for photographs and autographs following the end of the tournament.
Commenting on the day, Tom Morris – Senior Recruitment Consultant at Vision for Education – said: “it was amazing to see such talent on display at the tournament.
“There were huge shows of respect and sportsmanship, and some great goals too!
“Congratulations to South Hetton and a very big well done to all other school that took part!”
Mark Donnelly of Durham Women added: “It’s a big aim across the country to get more girls playing football, especially in primary schools, and this tournament was a fantastic introduction to the sport for many youngsters in the region.
“They all had a fantastic day at the tournament and meeting our players left them inspired and keen to continue playing.
“We always love running these events with Vision for Education and it’s a fantastic part of our partnership, which continues to grow and develop.”
This event was the latest in a series run by Vision for Education and Durham Women since their long-running partnership began in 2014.
Now one of the longest-running shirt sponsorship deals in football, the partnership extends beyond that presence on the kit – with the two organisations offering local children a number of memorable experiences.
They have included inspirational visits from players into schools, multiple girls-only tournaments, and once-in-a-lifetime trips to Wembley for major fixtures.
