Match Preview: Saoirse Noonan on Charlton clash

Saoirse Noonan believes Durham Women are ready to tackle a busy week – starting with the trip to Charlton Athletic.

The Blues will head to The Oakwood to take on Karen Hills’ side on Sunday, October 8 (12pm kick-off) to kick-off a hectic seven-day period, which also includes a visit from Blackburn Rovers and the long journey to Southampton.

And having tasted defeat in their last outing, Noonan and Durham are keen to bounce back.

Speaking about the Reading game, the striker said: “We reflected on it on Tuesday when we came back in and we created chances, we just need to put them away.

“It was a disappointing result for us coming off the back of a good win, but we have to park that now.

“We have three games and a big week coming up, and we need all the points we can get.

“These games are coming fast so we need three points, we need a big performance and we have to focus on Sunday before the quick turnaround to Wednesday.”

Charlton have won their last two Barclays Women’s Championship games and, having claimed victory in both of the games between these sides last year, the Addicks will enter the game full of confidence.

And Noonan is well aware of the threats they will hold.

“You can see from the table it’s extremely tough this year,” she added.

“We played Charlton last season and they were a good side, and they’ve shown it again this season.

“We’re expecting a tough game.”

Durham are again set to be roared on by a strong travelling contingent – something Noonan and her teammates don’t take for granted.

“It’s a long journey and they’re coming in their own time,” she said.

“We can’t thank them enough – we always hear them and we’re always grateful for them.”
