Amy Andrews’ 96th-minute winner saw Durham Women bounce back with a deserved win against London City Lionesses.
The forward struck deep into injury time to seal the three points for the hosts after they had been thwarted on several occasions by the impressive Grace Moloney in the visiting goal.
Durham made just one change from the side that lost at Crystal Palace, with Poppy Pritchard handed a first start.
And the Blues began brightly, with Jess Clarke’s low cross almost turned home by Andrews – only for Moloney to make a crucial block.
Clarke then came close herself with an effort from outside the area while Andrews forced Moloney into another good stop after finding some space 20 yards from goal.
Pritchard was the next to be thwarted by the London City ‘keeper – first after picking the pocket of her defender in the box before the Irish international made another stunning stop after the young striker was threaded in by Lauren Briggs.
The visitors came out the traps quickly in the second half and saw much more of the ball, albeit without really testing Naoisha McAloon.
Indeed, the first real chance of the half fell to Durham as Briggs glanced a header wide from Clarke’s teasing cross.
But London City remained a threat and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah twice came close from range, with her second strike requiring the fingertips of McAloon to push it wide.
Moloney then kept Andrews out when one-on-one before Paige Satchell fired wide at the other end as the game became a far more transitional affair.
Saoirse Noonan came close with a header as both teams traded opportunities in the final stages.
It continued that way into the seven minutes of injury time, and so it was little surprise that the game’s deciding goal came on the break.
After dealing with a London City set-piece, Durham sprang forward with Andrews and Clarke swapping passes before the former swept home to cue raucous celebrations – as the Blues secured a second win of the season.
