Durham Women forward Amy Andrews praised the team’s ‘unreal’ response after they beat London City Lionesses.
Andrews netted an injury time winner to seal victory for the side, as they offered a superb rebuttal to last week’s defeat at Crystal Palace.
And the summer signing heaped praise on the whole squad for how they reacted to the disappointment of the reverse in the capital – putting in a strong performance throughout against London City.
“I’m so proud of this team, we’ve really turned it around,” said the forward.
“It’s very hard to go from that result last week to this – beating London City.
“Unreal. I’m very proud of everyone.
“We just came together as a huge family and we just wanted to fight for eachother.
“The communication was really good today, we battled and even if we weren’t in our own position we went somewhere else and battled.”
While the goal came late in the day, Andrews always felt confident that a breakthrough would arrive.
“I knew we were going to score and I felt like I was going to score,” she admitted.
“It was just really nice to create multiple chances.
“The girls kept creating chances and as a striker you’re not going to score every chance, so the fact the team didn’t give up is the most important part.”
And the striker reserved special praise for the Durham support, who played a key role in the win.
“I’ve never seen fans like them,” added Andrews.
“They’ll support us no matter and I hear them all game – it really helps and I appreciate them so much.”
