Lauren Briggs is relishing the opportunity to return to Maiden Castle as Durham Women prepare for their first home game of the Barclays Women’s Championship season.
Lewes are the visitors to the North East on Sunday, September 3 (12pm kick-off) as the Blues look to build on a point gained at Watford on the opening day.
While that wasn’t the winning start to the season that Durham had hoped for, Briggs is keen to take the positives.
“It was always going to be a hard game, ” she admitted.
“It’s a long way from home and the first competitive game of the season, so we knew and were prepared for what the game would be like.

“On reflection, we’re happy with a point. We did have some chances to finish the game off, but we also did well to keep it at 1-1 and take a point away.”
Now full focus turns to the Maiden Castle homecoming – something Briggs and her teammates have been looking forward to.
“We love our home fixtures,” she said.
“We have a great crowd and following – we know they’re going to be loud and we just want to showcase what we’ve been preparing for all pre-season.”
It could be an extra special afternoon for the midfielder, who currently sits on 99 appearances for Durham – meaning Sunday could be her 100th outing.
It’s a landmark which isn’t lost on Briggs.
“Any milestone representing the club, it means a lot,” said the 27-year-old.

“It’s an amazing feeling and potentially getting the 100th cap is great.
“There’s been a lot of hurdles to get to this point, but I wear the badge with pride and I’m looking forward to Sunday.”
And Briggs saved her final words for the Durham supporters – who she wants to see turn out in the numbers on Sunday.
“They make a huge difference.
“They’re extremely loud and when we hear them roar, it really gives us a push over the line.
“We’d love to see as many fans down as possible to really encourage us to get those three points.”
