Match Preview: Dee Bradley On Watford Opener

Durham Women head to newly-promoted Watford on the opening day of the 2023/24 Barclays Women’s Championship season – and midfielder Dee Bradley is well aware that a tough test awaits.

The Blues will make the trip to Wealdstone FC on Sunday, August 27 (12pm kick-off) off the back of a promising pre-season campaign.

Reflecting on the mood in the camp ahead of the opening day, Bradley said: “The buzz around the camp is incredible.

“This week we’re really pushing. We’re looking fit and sharp and I think everyone is up for the challenge.”

But Watford, who won promotion from the FA Women’s National League last term, have themselves enjoyed a successful summer both on and off the field.

Some eye-catching pre-season wins have been accompanied by some eye-catching signings: the likes of Coral Haines and Harley Bennett bringing second tier experience, while a number of youngsters – including prolific Arsenal striker Michelle Agyemang – will need to be marshalled carefully.

And Durham midfielder Bradley knows it will be a tough opening day assignment.

“They always have been and will be a tough team to play against,” she said.

“Any team we play will be tough, but with it being the opening weekend everybody will be up for it.

“We need to do our bit and bring what we’ve done in pre-season – and more – on Sunday.”
