Match Report: AFC Fylde 0-2 Durham

Durham Women claimed a third straight pre-season victory after beating AFC Fylde.

Goals from Saoirse Noonan and Lauren Briggs either side of the break were enough for the Blues, who were dominant throughout at Kellamergh Park.

But it was the hosts who almost broke the deadlock after just four minutes – Durham failing to clear a corner before the Fylde striker sent an effort crashing off the post.

After that let-off, the visitors took the lead on seven minutes.

Abby Holmes kept the ball alive on the flank after a deep cross, and her set-back was guided home by Noonan.

Mollie Lambert then curled narrowly wide as Durham pushed for a second, while Noonan was twice denied by strong stops from the home goalkeeper.

A raft of changes at half-time brought a fresh impetus for the Wildcats, with substitutes Jess Clarke and Poppy Pritchard both coming close.

Pritchard then struck the post from a tight angle after skipping into the area, but a deserved second goal would come.

After a sustained spell of pressure, Briggs kept her composure and guided her strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Durham XI: Saunders (McAloon), Robert (Salicki), S Wilson, Robson, Lambert, Andrews (Pritchard), Crosthwaite (E Wilson), Bradley (Briggs), Noonan (Ryan-Doyle), Nicholson (Clarke), Holmes
