Jess Clarke previews Durham’s friendly with Huddersfield Town

We recently caught up with Durham forward Jess Clarke to talk about the upcoming game on Sunday against Huddersfield Town- and the recent record number of season ticket sales.

Jess was first asked about her excitement for the return of the Durham faithful to Maiden Castle this weekend.

“We can’t wait to see the fans back here.

“Obviously it is pre season so we can get some important minutes under the belt see where we are for preparations for the new season.

“The fans play a huge part in our season so it will be great to see their faces again and to get that match day experience back.”

Jess then spoke about the record number of season ticket sales and how that will help the team the succeed this season.

“Regardless of the sales, Durham have always had a loyal fan base.

“The fact that it is increasing is great it will be exciting to welcome the regular faces and hopefully some new ones.

“It’s great for the women’s game to see such a large number of season ticket sales and also for Durham who are an independent club – it is amazing to see such a huge following.

“The fans have always been important, going back to last season we scored a lot of last minute winners and they play a huge part in that.

“They are almost like an extra player especially when you don’t have much fuel left in your legs.

“You hear the fans shouting ‘keep going Jess’ and it really motivates you to push yourself to the very end.”

Jess then finally went on to speak about Sunday’s test against Huddesfield Town and what she expected from the game.

“At the moment it is all about building foundations and relationships between each other.

“We have had a lot of new faces come in so it is important to create that bond with them.

“We just want to enjoy the game – it will be a challenge. It is 11 v 11 and we just can’t wait to get out there in front of the home fans again.”
