Durham Women skipper Sarah Wilson spoke to the press after the late win at Lewes.
Dee Bradley’s injury time header sealed a 2-1 victory for the Wildcats as they sealed a seventh place finish.
And here’s what Wilson had to say after the clash:
Wilson on the win at Lewes…
“It was good.
“Obviously its a long way to come and both teams made it difficult for each other and could have took it at either point in the game.
“We made it difficult for ourselves at times. Fortunately we came out on top with a last
minute goal.
“We changed it tactically (at half-time) to try to match them because they were getting in
behind quite a lot, using their width.
“They’re used to playing on a massive pitch and they were playing to their own strengths and
we struggled to deal with that in the first half, so we changed to a back three just to try to
match them.
“We knew it’s the last game, we’re so far away from home, we’ve just got to come out and
give it everything.
“We knew we shiouldn’t really have been behind, it was a mistake that cost us, we always
had the belief that we were going to come out and get back into the game.”
Wilson on the season as a whole…
“It’s a disappointing season, we know we’ve said that.
“We want to be finishing higher, we want to be challenging, want to be up there.
“But it’s been a really, really difficult one.
“We’ve obviously had a huge transition within the club, theres been a lot of movement, the
club’s going in the right direction.
“I guess we were just a bit naiive at the beginning, that’s how we will reflect on it.
“It’s disappointing, but there’s still a lot of positives to come out of it and the direction the
clubs going is exactly where it needs to be and that’s the most important thing.
“We’ll go away, reflect on our own seasons and as a team, and come back ready to be flying
at the beginning of July.”
