PREVIEW: Sarah Wilson on Charlton Athletic Trip

Durham Women captain Sarah Wilson says the club’s recent results show they are ‘building towards something’ – as the 2022/23 campaign enters its final weeks.

And the centre back is hopeful that the Wildcats can continue to progress when they head to The Valley to face Charlton Athletic on Sunday, April 16 (12pm kick-off).

Durham are unbeaten in their last three and have four games remaining – starting with the clash against Karen Hills’ side.

And here’s what the skipper had to say ahead of the trip to the capital:

Wilson on positive results before the international break…

“We’re feeling pretty good.

“It’s good to get a couple of good results off the bounce and it keeps the camp positive and it’s something we’re continuing to build on.

“You can see we’re building towards something – and that’s what this season has been about, building our new style of play and progressing towards everything we want to go to.”

Wilson on work over the international break…

“Just because there hasn’t been any games, it didn’t mean that the hard work was going to stop.

“We’ve been in, we’ve been working really hard and putting everything together and focusing on the busy weeks we have coming up.”

Wilson on facing Charlton Athletic…

“It’s a big pitch and they’re a really well-drilled side that play good football.

“We know it will be a tough test, so we need to focus on ourselves and the positives of the last few weeks.”

Wilson on the away support heading to Charlton…

“They’ve been fantastic all season, both home and away.

“To have that group travelling with us makes a huge difference and it’s something we’re really grateful for.”
