The win at Southampton saw Mollie Lambert make her 75th appearance for the club.
It means the midfielder is the latest Durham player to clock-up a landmark milestone this term, having become a mainstay in the side since joining from Sunderland in 2020.
And Laura Smith caught-up with Lambert ahead of last weekend’s clash with London City:
How have you found the season thus far?
“On a personal note, it’s been difficult but enjoyable at times. Not getting the results we want has been frustrating, but I’m happy to play part in the team and help out where I’m needed.
“It’s obviously been a frustrating year, but I’m trying to enjoy it where I can and I’m happy to be getting as much game time as possible.”
You’ve now made your 75th appearance for this club. How does it feel to represent Durham?
“Representing Durham is a good feeling, it’s amazing.
“We’re in the Championship, and our league position at the minute isn’t where we want it to be, but everyone knows that Durham should be higher up than we are.
“We call ourselves little old Durham because we are the underdogs against anyone and no one likes to play us.
“So yes, it’s a nice feeling when you step on that pitch and play at Maiden Castle, knowing that you’ve got a big crowd behind you.”
Has there been much of a change for you, since signing a new deal in the summer and going full time?
“A massive deal. We were only part-time and training in the evenings before. Now, this is what we call work.
“Every day we come in, play football and do something that we love. If you tell a kid now “my job is to play football everyday”, you just see that smile on their face and for me to do that, that’s something I want to do and that I’m happy to do.”
What are you hoping to achieve over the remainder of the season?
“On a personal note, I’d like to play as many games and minutes as possible.
“Hopefully I’ll get on the scoresheet more with assisting and helping the girls out.
“But as a whole, I’m hoping that we just get results and are able to get as far up on the table as we can.”
How much have the fans and support helped you and the team this season?
“Honestly, I think we have got the best fans.
“Some of them travel to every away game – London, Bristol, Southampton. They do the journey, they do the miles. We see them all of the time.
“They come to the events and to every home game. It’s unreal and I do feel we’ve got the best fans in the league.
“Especially at Maiden Castle, with it being a tight little stadium, it’s unreal when you hear them as you walk out on that pitch.”
