Durham Women FC and club partners Clear Climate have combined to give hundreds of aspiring female footballers a memorable day.
The local renewables firm sponsored the club’s annual Sister Club Football Festival – meaning 18 teams and close to 300 players were competing to win ‘The Clear Climate Cup’ across three age groups.
Under-8, Under-10 and Under-12 teams from across the North East and Cumbria gathered at Maiden Castle on Sunday, March 26 for a morning of fun and friendly fixtures which were all played in a fantastic spirit.
The teams were even watched by members of Durham Women’s first team squad as they showed great skill and talent throughout the competition.

There could only be three winners though, and the below teams became the first recipients of The Clear Climate Cup:
- Under 8 – Durham United
- Under 10 – Washington Athletic
- Under 12 – Pirelli FC
But the day didn’t end at the conclusion of the competition, as every player was invited to watch Durham Women’s big Barclays Women’s Championship clash with promotion-chasing London City Lionesses.
They were then invited on the pitch at half-time to receive their certificates and trophies, while cheering on the Wildcats to a huge 3-0 win.
Commenting on the day, Mark Donnelly of Durham Women said: “It was fantastic to see so many aspiring players take part in the Clear Climate Cup.
“It’s always great to see the inspirational effect these days can have on those who take part and we’re sure that plenty of girls will have left feeling inspired by their own displays and those of our first-team.
“A huge thanks must go to the clubs who came out in force, our own staff who were superb in delivering the football festival and our Regional Talent Club players who were excellent referees.
“And of course, we’re so thankful to the continued support of Lee, Andy and all the team at Clear Climate whose support is crucial in running events such as this.”
