Becky Salicki says Durham Women will be looking to build on last week’s impressive performance when they head to Bristol City.
The Wildcats beat Coventry United 5-1 in their last outing and are keen to continue improving as they head to face the table-topping Robins on Sunday (2pm kick-off, Robins High Performance Centre).
Salicki netted her first goal in that win, and we caught-up with her ahead of the side’s next outing in the South West:
Salicki on the win over Coventry…
“It was really important.
“They’re a tough team and we had prepped all week really hard to make sure we were ready for it.
“We were clinical and there were a lot of good points to take out of it, but areas we know we need to be better in too.
“It’s a shame we couldn’t keep a clean sheet but we take the positives moving forward.”
Salicki on her first goal of the campaign…
“I’d been getting some stick off the coaches for not scoring yet!
“I think I got carried away with the celebration but I was just happy to help out.”
Salicki on the club’s community work on International Women’s Day…
“It’s huge – it’s a lot of why we do what we do, we want to be role models and girls know if they see it , they can be it.
“The announcement from the FA and Lionesses yesterday and what they’re doing in schools is fantastic and that’s everything we should be pushing for.
“We want everyone to have equal opportunities and for them to get that in school is really important.”
Salicki on Bristol City…
“They’re a very good team.
” We could see that last season when we played them at home that they were building and that’s shown this year.
“They’ve got quality all around the pitch, they’ve got a good setup and we have a lot of respect for them.
“But at the end of the day it’s 11v11 on Sunday and we’ll go in for it and give our absolute everything. Fingers crossed we can take something from it.”
Salicki on our superb away support…
“It’s actually crazy. We talk about it a lot and the support we have right now is incredible.
“We play for them and this club with our heart, and when we hear them it makes such a difference to us.
“Some of the Manchester United girls were saying after our game there that it was one of the best crowds in terms of away supporters they’d had, and that just shows how incredible that is for us.
“Thank you so much for everything you’re doing, keep doing it and hopefully we can make you proud.”
