COMMUNITY: Durham Women & Vision for Education Deliver Memorable Day For Primary School Girls

Durham Women and Vision for Education came together to give over 50 local girls the chance to play football in a fun and friendly environment.

Five primary schools competed in a series of fixtures at Maiden Castle, the home of Durham Women, on Thursday, February 16 with plenty of smiles and skills on display.

There were strong performances from Brandon Primary School, Esh Winning Primary School, Rosa Street Primary School and Shincliffe Primary School – before Tanfield Lea Primary School were crowned as the victors with a 100 per cent win record.

Every participant was given a medal and a free ticket to Durham Women’s upcoming fixture with London City Lionesses – while they were also able to meet the Durham Women squad for photographs and autographs.

Commenting on the day, Tom Morris – Primary Consultant at Vision for Education – said: “It was amazing to see the girls show off their great football skills in this fun and competitive morning.

“Thanks so much to the Durham Women team for also making a star appearance and making memories for these girls!”

Mark Donnelly of Durham Women added: “It was great to see so many young girls getting the opportunity to play football in such a fun and supportive environment.

“We really want to encourage as many females as possible to play and engage with the game, and they were all inspired by meeting our players.

“Hopefully we met some of the stars and supporters of the future at this tournament!”

This event was the latest in a series run by Vision for Education and Durham Women since their long-running partnership began in 2014.

Now one of the longest-running shirt sponsorship deals in football, the partnership extends beyond that presence on the kit – with the two organisations offering local children a number of memorable experiences.

They have included inspirational visits from players into schools, multiple girls-only tournaments, and once-in-a-lifetime trips to Wembley for major fixtures.
